The Mary Tyler Moore Show, an American TV sitcom series which is aired on CBS Network from 1970 to 1977. The Mary Tyler Moore series is also mentioned as one of the most acclaimed television programs ever produced in the history of US television. It is the shows which is admired from opponent and continues to be praised long after the final episode aired.
The series is created by James L. Brooks and Allan Burns. The characters of the series are Mary Richard played by Marty Tyler Moore, Edward Asner in the role of Lou Grant, Gavin MacLeod played by Murray Slaughter, Ted Knight in the role of Ted Baxter, Rhoda Morgenstern whose role is taken by Valerie Harper, Phyllis Lindstrom played by Cloris Leachman, and Georgia Engel and Betty White in the roles Georgette Franklin and Sue Ann Nivens respectively.
The central character of the series is Mary Richard. She is a single woman, thirty years old. She breaks off her engagement and moves to Minneapolis where she applied for a secretarial job at TV stations WJM, but is offered the position of an Associated Producer for the station's "Six O'Clock News". She is the lady who is not widowed or divorced or seeking a man to support her. Lou Grant is the producer who later becomes the Executive Producer of the news. He is a kind hearted man and is referred to as Lou by everyone, including Mary's friend. But Marry only calls him by his first name rather than "Mr. Grant". Ted Baxter is an ineffective writer who frequently makes mistakes and is unaware to the actual nature of the topics covered on the show. He thinks himself to be the country's best news journalist. Murray Slaughter is the head writer and close friend to Marie; he married to Marie and has several children. Rhoda Morgenstern is also Marie's best friend and upstairs neighbor. Phyllis Lindstrom is Marie's superior friend and also neighbor. She is a political activist and a supporter of Women's Liberation; she married to an unseen character who is a dermatologist.
Sue Ann Nivens and Georgette Franklin are later introduced characters of the series. Franklin is a sweet natured but inexperienced girlfriend of Ted, and Sue Ann is the host of WHM'S "The Happy Homemaker show". The behavior of Sue is cheerful; she makes judgmental comments about Marry, and uses many sexual double entendres, and strongly attracted to Lou.
